Lyrics

Man of His Word
James Funk

Verse #1:
If he said he would he’ll be there, he’s a man of his word.
That the world thinks he’s exceptional to me seems so absurd.

Still the people crowd around him, no they haven’t seen his like for many years, they stare at him in wonder, for they thought that men like him had disappeared, but no, now here’s a man of his word.

Verse #2:
The little things he says he’ll do for someone else get done,
and a dollar loaned to him comes back before you know it’s gone.

His character the skeleton without which he could not support the weight,
of the burden of integrity that for many men is often much too great,
but no, not for a man of his word.

Bridge:
The people’s lives that he touches are affected by the principles of the man.
And though the cynics think that it’s all a hype, he doesn’t mind,
he knows they don’t understand what he stands for.
No, no he’s a man of his word.

Verse #3:
If he said he would he’ll be there, he’s a man of his word.
That the world thinks he’s exceptional to me seems so absurd.

If leading by example holds, he leaves a tide of virtue in his wake,
but the ignorant are drowning and the evil simply turn and swim away, oh,
oh, from the man and his word.
